Artist Profile

  • GoRo the Vibratian

A vibrational artist who plays didgeridoo, kalimba, ngoni, mouth harp, flute, hand pan, and percussion, mostly self-made instruments. GoRo spent five years wandering around India, Thailand and other parts of Asia from 1986. After returning to Japan, he performed on the streets of urban areas and aimed to transform the vibrations of nature into sound. The sound of ethnic instruments played in his unique style is acoustic but also has an electronic aspect. He recorded with artists from underground to major, including Takao Tajima (Original Love), Andrew Hale (Sade), DJ KRUSH, Kaoru Inoue, and DJ KENSEI. He also performed at events for tens of thousands of people, including the Boom Festival in Portugal with a Japanese taiko band GOCOO; from 2015 to 2016, he toured with a band SAKANACTION. Later, GoRo recorded music with ZEN RYDAZ, a group gaining attention in Japan's core music scene, for their album "ZEN TRAX" (2019) and "ZEN TRAX 2" (2021). In 2023, GoRo and DJ KENSEI produced "Mimyo", their first new work in 20 years, under the name Final Drop. Featuring the pristine natural sounds of Japan's World Natural Heritage site, Yakushima Island, and GoRo's live performances on various ethnic instruments seamlessly integrated with natural sounds, the album earned high acclaim both domestically and internationally, following their previous release "elements".
