Damage Yakkun and Thickone are releasing a five-track collaborative EP, "Heiwa."
The two artists, who became friends through social media last year, have finally completed this masterpiece after roughly a year of work.
The recording took place in each other's home studios, with data exchanged online.
Producers include :Plue and Rick Life, guest vocals by mistyminds, and artwork by Ten.
The EP is also a project prepared by Damage Yakkun, who supported Thickone's debut as a subscription service artist, as the final chapter of his advice.
The EP is literally filled with prayers and pledges for peace.
The two main artists are from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively, and the album depicts their daily lives, filled with prayers for peace and gratitude. Production heated up in August, straddling the anniversary of the end of the war, and the album was completed.
As the title suggests, it is a wish for peace, and a message of not giving in to setbacks in everyday life.
Each member shares their own circumstances, experiences, and feelings that can only be understood by walking the same path.
They put these into words and spoke at length, incorporating them into the flows that each member excels at.
There are ambitious attempts, such as using featured vocalists with English lyrics, and, combined with the sounds of up-and-coming producers, a strong awareness of the global scene.
The EP is built around each member's respective specialties, melodic rap/R&B and mellow trap sounds.
Each member takes the lead in the songs, which are filled with lyrical and sensitive poetic expressions and powerful messages. Filled with lyrics that are sometimes lifelike and sometimes lyrical, they will fit in well with chill spaces no matter the season.
The globally conscious sound production and featured vocals are proof of this, as is the lineup, which includes guest appearances by Thickone's friend mistyminds as an English vocalist, alongside the Atlanta- or West Coast-inspired sounds created by Plue and Rick Life.
Featuring tracks produced by Thickone himself, the passionate flows of both main artists are also captivating.
A prayer for peace that represents each artist's hometown.
An uncompromising spirit that speaks to long-term production.
This album, where the souls of Damage Yakkun and Thickone collide, is sure to be a must-list addition.
