The first single "Koh Joh" by the rhythm unit "MATSUBA", which musically interprets the tone of Rakugo and blends it with the electronic sounds of Techno.
"Koh Joh" refers to a speech delivered on stage, such as an introduction to a performance or the announcement of a name succession-essentially, a form of MC.
This track incorporates the classical phrasing and intonation of such speeches while fusing them with techno-infused taiko drum patterns, painting a sonic landscape of traditional performing arts.
Following the previous release, this single continues to explore new rhythms through a cross-cultural approach.
MATSUBA is a rhythm unit formed by Edanoshin Katsura, a Kamigata Rakugo storyteller carrying on the tradition of Kansai's performing arts, and Lewo Chyba, a computer musician active in underground Techno scenes worldwide. Their unique music production method harmonizes the linguistic rhythm and cadence inherited from Rakugo with the electronically controlled beats of Techno. In their live performances, Edanoshin Katsura takes the mic while Lewo Chyba skillfully manipulates the synthesizer. The units name is derived from Shofukutei Matsuba, a Rakugo performer who once thrived in the Kamigata region.
