The Essays in Song by Kurosaki Yuuka is a series created in collaboration with Naoko Date, a screenwriter who also writes lyrics. It captures fleeting thoughts and subtle discomforts that arise in everyday life with the intimacy of a private monologue. Rather than expressing emotions in an overtly dramatic way, the series gently stays close to solitary moments, quietly drawing out the honest feelings and inner wavering that lie deep within the heart.

Today I Will Give Myself Some Credit is the fifth song in The Essays in Song series. It reflects on noticing things without having to be told, and on putting them right by oneself once they are noticed. With slightly barbed words and a direct, unflinching point of view, the song portrays a feeling that seems obvious at first glance, yet is far from simple in practice.
