One year from previous work "Black Eyes". The new work of Japanese jazz treasure, Hidefumi Toki, is a duo with first-call pianist Mayuko Katakura who will lead the next generation. Recorded in the atelier of Taro Okamoto. In a special place surrounded by special atmosphere, a warm dialogue spreads out between the two.
The album includes standard songs loved by jazz fans, such as "Autumn Leaves", "Black Orpheus" and "Lover Man", and "After Dark", a classic song by Hidefumi Toki. The glamorous and overwhelming tone unique to Hidefumi Toki and the dynamism of Mayuko Katakura who develops it. The sounds they create are full of joy to perform with respect for each other.
After entering high school, he made his professional debut at the age of 16. Joined "Isao Suzuki Group", "Toshiyuki Miyama & New Hard" in 1970, and joined "Terumasa Hino Quintet " in 1972. In 1975, he released his first album[TOKI]. Since then, he has been leading the jazz scene of Japan as a top player that everyone recognizes. In 1979, he appeared in the Montreux Jazz Festival as a member of "Naoya Matsuoka & Wesing" . From 1985, he formed "CHICKEN SHACK" with Junji Yamagishi and played an active part in the fusion scene. On the other hand, he has been generously helping other genres of artists. Among them, Tatsuro Yamashita's support for 30 years is famous and has left many famous performances. There are 30 leader works and more than 400 in participating albums. In 2018, we released [Black Eyes] by Regular Quintet from <Days of Delight>.
At the same time as entering Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, she turned jazz to a classical piano that began in her childhood, and graduated from the university at the top. In 2002, she received a scholarship and entered Berklee College of Music. Graduated from the University with "piano achievement award" in 2004. She entered the Juilliard School in 2005 and studied piano with Kenny Barron and ensemble with Carl Allen and Ben Wolf. She has performed with many jazz icons such as Hank Jones, Donald Harrison and Eddie Henderson. In 2006, she won "Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Piano Competition" and was selected as a semi-finalist for "Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition". Currently, in addition to her own trio activities, she is leading the jazz scene in Japan as "a first call player" who is constantly attracted by many top players including Hidefumi Toki.
