Junsai Ondo
Satoshi Suzuki
The long-awaited recording of "Junsai Ondo," a local folk song that has become a staple in our live repertoire, has finally been released.
It's a rock bon odori number with a twist from the original, and is well worth a listen.
Let me tell you how I came to start performing this song in the first place.
When I first went to Muryoku Muzenji Temple, Yoshiwara Tragedy recommended Tomokawa Kazuki's album "Inu."
I heard "Dojokko Funakko" from the album and thought I'd like to do a folk-style song myself, and that's when I discovered "Junsai Ondo."It's a very local number that's barely known even by people from Akita Prefecture, and only known by local residents.
I would be delighted if Suzuki Satoshi's version sparks your interest in Junsai.
Artist Profile
Satoshi Suzuki
A Japanese singer from the underworld, singing the poetic world of hell and Akita dialect blues. He hails from Junsai Kingdom (formerly Yamamotocho). He began performing solo acoustics in earnest in early 2023, and his signature songs include "The River of Dogs," "The Song of Atopic Dermatitis," and "The Wooden Bridge with Turtles." His literary and pessimistic songs, described as "a Tohoku-style emotional genre," have received high praise from all quarters. His other signature style, Akita dialect blues, has also gained popularity, garnering praise such as "I have no idea what he's saying, but it's fun." Following a relapse of mental illness, he relocated to Akita in 2026 after undergoing treatment and resuming his activities.
