The Tokyo based singer-songwriter A.Y.A and the beatmaker Drivxs(ex:takevnap) team up again after "gravity", their dark wave-music inspired song. "blue" is their new mid-alternative R&B single, one that is much sadder and more emotionally draining but somehow hopeful.

From whispering to hitting high notes, A.Y.A showcases her vocal control technique, meshing her voice beautifully to the big-bottom beat. "blue" is a perfect blend of pure R&B nostalgia and futuristic dance-pop, delivering vibes that makes you wanna hit the club and dance 'til dawn, while also a perfect melody to cry to in your bedroom alone.

Capturing fear, anger, sadness, and positivity, the lyrics inject emotional complexity to the modern pop rhythm. The pre-chorus line "We're living in hard times, can you keep up?" stirs up personal thoughts but in the current climate, interrogates the listener more harshly. The global pandemic has transformed the gentle question, giving it entirely new meanings, but it's still worth asking.
