My first trip across the ocean

Flying all alone

So far away from home

To a place I’d never known

But my flight was running late

And I missed the next one too

They put me on another plane

But there was something I had to do

I had to reach the people

Who were waiting there for me

So through that giant airport

I walked and walked and walked

No coins!

Not a single one with me

I found the phone, I had the bills

But calling wasn’t free

No coins!

What was I supposed to do?

No smartphone in my pocket

No message getting through

So off I went again

With my suitcase by my side

Looking for a little change

In an airport big and wide

At last I found a little shop

And finally got some change

I hurried back to make the call

Thinking things would be okay

I dropped the coins into the phone

And waited for a sound

I called and called and waited

But no one was around

Then suddenly it hit me

Of course they weren’t at home

They were somewhere in the airport

Waiting there for me

No coins!

That had been my biggest fear

Now I had the coins I needed

But no one was there to hear

No coins!

What a long and crazy day

One little problem after another

Kept getting in my way

So back I went again

Through the airport one more time

Hoping somehow everything

Would finally turn out fine

Then at the airline counter

Someone looked at me and said

“We’ve been calling out your name”

And suddenly I understood

They had been worried

They were looking everywhere

And after all that walking

I finally found them there

No coins!

I can laugh about it now

So many years have passed

And life has changed somehow

No coins!

Now a phone can save the day

One little message, one quick call

And worry fades away

But sometimes little things

Still matter more than we know

So I keep a little change with me

Wherever I may go

A delayed flight, a missed connection

A public phone, a long, long day

Sometimes the smallest things become

The stories that remain

No coins!
