Kamome Children's Choir Announces New Release: "Neage," a Cover of Wataru Takada's 1971 Folk Classic
Based in Misaki Port, a harbor town at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, the Kamome Children's Choir has earned a devoted following-particularly among rock fans-for their bold, expressive performances.
In 2025, the choir captured national attention with their acclaimed cover of Denki Groove's "Shangri-La" and their high-profile appearance at the Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall alongside ZAZEN BOYS. Building on this momentum, the group now releases their latest single, "Neage" ("Price Increase"), originally written in 1971 by renowned folk musician Wataru Takada.
Guided by the artistic concept:
"Sing of joy, sing of sorrow, and sing of the present moment,"
the choir continues to deliver a free-spirited and emotionally resonant choral sound that has won the hearts of music listeners across Japan.
Misaki Port, Kanagawa The Kamome Childrens Choir, based in the southernmost harbor town of the Miura Peninsula, continues to captivate audiences nationwide with its bold, free spirited vocal style and the guiding concept: When everyone sings together, that is a choir. Since launching its recording activities in 2008, the choir has released an extensive catalog of works, including four original albums Grilled Fish for Dinner, Internet Blues / Deluxe Edition, Wonderful Music, and Songs Toward the Sea, along with numerous EPs and analog LPs. Their discography continues to expand, reflecting the groups evolving creative vision. The choir has also collaborated with a wide range of prominent artists, including Shintaro Sakamoto, Yuzu, Hoff Dylan, Keiichi Sokabe, kiss the gambler, and Soushi Sakiyama (honorifics omitted). These collaborations, along with guest appearances on various projects, are updated on an ongoing basis. Beyond studio work, the Kamome Childrens Choir is active on stage, performing at outdoor rock festivals and organizing their own independently produced vacant lot live concerts, events that embody the groups unconventional and adventurous spirit.
