LOLOET, who held their first solo live show, "LOLOET 1st ONEMAN SHOW Ume Kaoru Koro," at Shibuya WWW in February of this year, drawing a crowd of 350, has now packaged the live audio from that day.
The first half of the album fully showcases LOLOET's improvisational nature in their live performances, starting with M1 "Balcon," a collage of ambient sounds, including the venue entrance and lobby, recorded in real time. This is followed by M2 "Le poisson," which creates a solemn ambient space by applying effects to acoustic instruments such as piano, percussion, upright bass, and gut guitar. The anti-war song M4 "HAKAMA," performed alongside a reading about "Ume Kaoru Koro," follows. The setlist includes M5 "Les yeux"(featuring a trumpet; the studio version was selected for Spotify's official ambient playlist "Sora Ambient"), followed by M6 "Le matin,"M7 "Slogan," and M8 "SŒUR."The second half of the set features a barrage of noisy, dubby experimental tracks that resonate with alternative bands from around the world. The selection of tracks performed that day, seemingly extracting LOLOET's experimental side, was boldly mixed into a recording under the banner of their signature experimental sound by member Sachio Yoshizawa. Live PA and recording were handled by Nancy, known for her work with Otoboke Beaver and Hakushi Hasegawa. This work showcases the true essence of LOLOET's live performances, where their approach to recreating music sets them apart from other artists.
In 2023, Ayaka Wada, a former Japanese idol, formed LOLOET with musicians in Tokyo while studying abroad in Paris in search of freer musical expression. After field recording in Paris and studio work in Tokyo, she released her first song, "SŒUR," in October 2023. After Wada returned to Japan, she released "une petite pensée" on cassette tape and digitally on her own label in March 2024. In addition, in May 2025, she released the single "ELLE" on vinyl record through Tough Beats. With the theme of "ringing sounds" that resonate while relating to each other, she creates alternative musicality that incorporates the uplifting feeling of Japanese rituals into ambient drones, DUB, experimental music, environmental music, and improvisation, and is active not only in live houses but also in bookstores, museums, art spaces, and other locations.
