Stay in the City

Stay in the City

Stay in the City

SILHOUETTES & AFTERGLOW is the second album by the fictional AI singer Akemi, following twelve songs from the moment the outline of night comes loose to the moment its afterglow bleeds into morning.
A station platform in the thaw, shapes cut out against the skyscrapers, a roll of film kept deliberately undeveloped, a laundromat on a Saturday night, streets of Sagami blurred by rain, and a steering wheel turned toward the winter coast trace one continuous passage in which a night that once had clear edges softens, leaving only an afterglow no one has named.

Across these twelve tracks, Akemi sings the emotions of adulthood that does not rush toward an answer, and carries what was never spoken without forcing it into words.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and city pop, the album reimagines that era urban lyricism through images of neon afterimages, nights beside a public telephone, and the light of a city morning.

The first half walks among shadows that still hold their shape, and the second half walks the brightness left after those shadows loosen.
On the final track the sound of water stops and the city begins to move again, closing one long passage toward dawn.

Produced by nanayon music.

A music project that reimagines the melancholic mood and nighttime glow of late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese City Pop and New Music through AI-assisted production and human direction. Akemi is a fictional singer with a backstory of being from Yamato City, Kanagawa, Japan. She sings of urban solitude, grown-up love, and bittersweet afterglow in a noir-tinged city pop sound. Lyrics, composition, vocals, and visuals are created using generative tools and curated through editing. This is an experimental project exploring the human warmth and nostalgia that can emerge from AI.
