Ross Moody will release their new single "Sweet Silence" on Friday, June 5th.

Tokyo-based sibling duo Ross Moody have been gaining attention since their relaunch this past February, releasing four consecutive singles-each picked up by music media outlets and featured on official Spotify playlists. Coming about a month after their previous release, this new track pairs a mysterious, chorus-laden atmosphere with Kobamuta's sharp and dynamic rap delivery.

Since their return, the duo have often leaned into richly evocative lyrics and soundscapes. However, this track stands apart: a somewhat resigned guitar phrase, loosely played drums, and a hook that persistently repeats the phrase "Who is it, who is it, who is it" create a unique tension. The lyrics invite multiple interpretations, yet still feel oddly tangible-arguably the song's most compelling aspect.

The track was co-written by Kobamuta and Keita Kobayashi, originating from melodic ideas they exchanged on their way home from a cherry blossom viewing. They then headed straight to their bedroom-turned-studio and developed the song into its final form. Kobamuta handled the lyrics, while Keita Kobayashi took charge of mixing and mastering.

Blending laid-back R&B and soul influences with elements that appeal to core rap listeners, the track is set to resonate with a wide range of music fans.

Artist Profile

  • Ross Moody

A sibling band consisting of singer Kobamuta and track maker Keita Kobayashi. They released their debut album What Murdered Me in 2019, followed by the mixtape Without Schools: The Mixtape in 2020 and the album A Farewell to Nostalgia in 2022. Their work gained attention for Kobamuta's distinctive vocals and poetic, playful rap style, combined with Keita Kobayashi's experimental production built on intricate sampling and collage techniques. In 2023, the project expanded its lineup and released the EP Love Spread, marking a shift toward a more musical sound centered on vocals and live instrumentation. After subsequent lineup changes, the band has continued to develop a unique sonic identity shaped by the brothers' shared sensibility - crafting intimate, warm tracks paired with engaging vocals.
