Originally released on April 25, 2015, Liberation was the very first solo full-length album by Tsukasa Minami, featuring 13 tracks. Later, on May 15, 2020, the album was re-released in high-resolution audio, with some tracks remixed.
Now, this third version - "Liberation - renewal" - features newly re-recorded versions of three songs:
"Pure and Sad Defense Song", "Matsuri Song", and "An Unpleasant Woman (1993)", each with updated lyrics.
Why re-record them?
Since the original release, Tsukasa Minami has been performing these songs live with slightly revised lyrics. These updated lyrics have evolved naturally through live performances over the years, and it felt right to finally capture them in recorded form. This version reflects how the songs are truly sung today.
In addition, both 'Just Leave It As It Is.' and 'Shake!' have been remixed. With a total of 5 out of the 13 songs renewed, this 13-track full-length album is released as "Liberation - renewal."
It's not quite a first album, and not exactly a second one either - think of it as version 1.5. A 1.5th album, if you will.
Tsukasa Minami is a singer-songwriter who creates genre-blending music, mixing rock, pop, blues, reggae, and funk with a retro twist. Influenced by folk, vintage Japanese pop, classic rock, and old-school blues, the music on this album spans a wide range of styles. And yet, in every track - whether in the lyrics, the melodies, or the arrangements - you'll find a nostalgic essence that feels familiar, as if you've heard it somewhere before... and yet, it's like nothing you've heard before.
Each track blends that sense of old-school nostalgia with fresh, modern elements - creating a unique listening experience that bridges past and present.
Everything on this album - from vocals and instrumental performance to lyrics, composition, and arrangement - was done entirely by Tsukasa Minami.
That's Liberation - renewal.
An album shaped by time, experience, and one artist's evolving voice.

Each song carries not just familiar echoes from the past, but also unique, never-before-heard elements woven in. That's the kind of artist Tsukasa Minami is.
