ポストパンクを軸に活動するバンド、MODERN JAZZ WAR（MJW）が、ファーストシングル『Bleeding for Nothing』を8月20日（水）にデジタル配信でリリースする。
写真家としても活動する中野道（Michi）が率いるMJWは、「本来脇役とされるもの」に焦点を当てることをコンセプトとしており、変則チューニングによるスケールアウトした音やノイズなど「ズレ」や「歪さ」からもその姿勢がうかがえる。
レコーディングではクリックを使わず、全楽器同時の一発録りを採用。即興性を重視したサウンドには、インプロビゼーション特有の響きがあり、それは「整えられた調和」への疑義だ。
無音や残響、微細なノイズ──本来聴かれることを想定されない音までも取り込み、それらを問いとして投げかけている。
本作では繰り返される “We are bleeding for nothing” というフレーズが、痛みが簡単に共有・消費される現代社会を批評する。
誰もが演じ、整えられた“正しさ”に同化しながら擦り減っていく──その無意味な“流血”を、嘲笑を込めてミッドテンポのアンセムとして描き出した。
『Bleeding for Nothing』は、9月リリース予定の初EP『Holes in Modernity』からの先行シングル。レコーディング／ミックスにKensei Ogata、マスタリングにはJapanese BreakfastやBlondshellを手がけるオーディオエンジニア・Katie Lauを迎えて制作された。
さらに9月には、『Holes in Modernity』と同日にノイズ・アンビエントEPのリリースも予定されており、リリースパーティの開催も決定している。
