The second release in Katsuya Takeda's music project using generative AI, SUNO.
This song was originally written in 2014, inspired by an idea that came up at a bar I used to frequent: to write a song for a woman in her twenties who was a regular there.
It is a song about what it means to live as yourself in Tokyo after coming from somewhere else in Japan. I wrote it as a song of encouragement for those who are willing to face that challenge and move forward.
Twelve years have passed since I wrote it.
For all these years, I had hoped to hear a woman sing this song. Now, the song itself has grown twelve years older. When I decided that I wanted to preserve it as a finished piece of music, I discovered SUNO. As a musician who also works another profession, I found a wonderful new creative partner in this technology, and together we created an arrangement that opened up the world of this song in ways I had not imagined before.
At a time when AI-generated music is being discussed from both positive and negative perspectives, I have chosen to simply enjoy exploring this technology. For me, it feels like I have met a very good friend-one who helps me expand the world of my own music while still allowing me to remain at the center of its creative vision.
Perhaps this song had been waiting for the technology to catch up with it.
I am grateful that I have been able to continue living alongside music, without giving up, until this moment. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the late owner of Higashi-Nagasaki BAR SOUL, who created the circumstances that gave birth to this song, and to Ms. I, the woman who inspired this song and became its muse.
I hope this song will continue to encourage people living in this era.
And above all, I hope it finds its way to those who need to hear it.
