My memory is a little vague, but I believe I composed this song in 1999.
I wrote it after graduating from high school, during a time when I was studying singing and composition seriously at a music vocational school while working part-time. Because it was a jazz school, the song was strongly influenced by a certain standard number that had been assigned as a vocal exercise.
In live performances, I usually play it as a solo acoustic piece.
The lyrics were written based on the philosophy I held at the time-"Love solitude"-and I tried to express it in as few Japanese words as possible.
For this release, I built upon a guitar-and-vocal recording made in recent years with the help of Hiroshi Nasu, adding further layers to complete the track.
Although the song was originally composed with a blues-jazz groove in mind, the new arrangement adds sounds processed with distortion and spatial effects.
I believe I was able to shape the sound as fully as possible with the techniques I have.
I would be happy if listeners could enjoy both the youthful freshness of a time when I was struggling with life and searching for the meaning of solitude, and the straightforward, almost classic feel of the song.
