As a child in the early 1960's, Granpa Ed heard his Slovak grandfather sing a variety of Slovak folk songs in his native language. Although the words were never understood, the melodies were never forgotten.
These festive folk songs inspired the creation of "We Are Happy Dogs!". At first, this was a song without lyrics until Ed's wife, Mieko, composed Japanese lyrics about the dogs that have enriched our lives. "We Are Happy Dogs" features two sets of standard poodles, both past and present, as well as a variety of other breeds. It is noted that all but two of the dogs appearing in the video were rescued.
The cheerful, energetic music reflects an "Old-World" charm. The lyrics effectively combine Japanese and English to successfully convey the joyful life of a dog.
