Petra

Beyond the narrow sandstone canyon lies a rose-red city that has waited for more than two thousand years.

"Petra" is the fifth chapter of the World Heritage series by RIN & THE CONTINUUM. Inspired by the ancient city carved into the cliffs of southern Jordan, the composition captures the suspense of walking through the Siq and the breathtaking moment when Al-Khazneh suddenly appears, expressed through an adventurous modern jazz piano trio built around shifting odd meters.

The music begins with fragmented piano phrases emerging from silence before the upright bass establishes a deep ostinato that echoes the heartbeat of the desert. The drums weave seamlessly between 7/8 and 5/8, creating an energetic yet natural pulse. Above this foundation, Rin Todo's piano moves freely with dazzling virtuosity, balancing bold improvisation with lyrical expression to reveal the mystery and grandeur of the ancient city.
