White-hot
SHIN KOKAWA, SOUUN
Over the border
More dig'in
Don't believe

White-hot (Instrumental version)
SHIN KOKAWA, SOUUN
A collaborative EP by drummer Shin Kokawa and SOUUN, a Kyoto-based MC.
SOUUN is affiliated with ZERO-Gravity and WE BUILT THIS CITY. Active since around 2007, he stands apart through his well-regarded rhyming skills and lyrics drawn from a sensibility honed in the Kyoto underground. At the ULTIMATE MC BATTLE, he represented Kyoto five times, finishing runner-up in 2019 and finally claiming his long-sought first championship in 2020.
"I think" and "White-hot" three tracks (one an instrumental version) in which the groove of Shin Kokawa's live drumming and SOUUN's words meet head-on.
"I think" is a striking track built from the drums of a song Kokawa co-created with Shun Ishiwaka on his first album, remastered and reconstructed for this release. Over Kokawa's drum beat, the lyrics steadily catch fire.
The ninth chapter of Shin Kokawa's 13-week consecutive release project a record of the chemistry that emerges as Kokawa's rhythm meets thirteen different artists.
Artist Profile
SHIN KOKAWA
In his pursuit of live drum expression, improvisational artist SHIN KOKAWA resonates with Japanese spirituality, including indigenous nature worship and the sublime concepts of Zen. He internalizes a diverse range of genres: free jazz, spiritual jazz, world music, ambient, and hardcore. By infusing the primitive, powerful, and beautiful sounds of his instruments with the raw intuition of the moment, he creates soundscapes that depict the vastness of the universe. Making his major debut as a founding member of the instrumental band jizue (founded in 2006), Kokawa has performed at numerous large-scale festivals in Japan and abroad, including the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL. Since embarking on a solo career in 2019, he has released his 1st album 'ANIMA' (2020) and a 2nd album 'touch the sub conscious' (2024), which features collaborations with renowned artists such as Seiichi Yamamoto, Shing02, and Shun Ishiwaka. He is also an active member of the Kyoto-based experimental band kott, with whom he performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2023. In 2026, he launched '13 ARTIST X 3 WORKS,' an ambitious project featuring collaborations with 13 different artists and 39 tracks to be released consecutively every week.

SOUUN
Born on New Year's Day, 1988, in the easternmost part of Kyoto. An MC affiliated with ZERO-Gravity and WE BUILT THIS CITY. He began his career around 2007. Renowned from the beginning for his exceptional rhyming skills, his lyrics are spun from a sensibility cultivated by directly absorbing the ethos of the Kyoto underground scene. This unique foundation allows his words to stand out brilliantly, refusing to blend in with the crowd. Furthermore, in the "ULTIMATE MC BATTLE" hosted by Libra Records, he has represented Kyoto five times (2012, 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2021). In the national tournament, he reached the Top 4 twice, finished as the runner-up in 2019, and finally secured his long-awaited first championship title in 2020.
