SAKUra 5th Digital Single
Stardust Night
Digital Release on June 12, 2026
Produced by legendary city pop composer and arranger Etsuko Yamakawa, 15-year-old city pop singer SAKUra releases her 5th digital single, Stardust Night.
Originally written by Yamakawa for Yuu Hayami in 1983, the song returns in a newly reimagined version arranged by Yamakawa herself. The track marks SAKUra first cover song as well as her first duet collaboration.
Featured on the track is AMAIWANA, an artist known for her uniquely playful and distinctive musical world, who has also gained international attention including appearances connected to Coachella-related events. Blending the charming spirit of the original with the coquettish personalities of both SAKUra and AMAIWANA, the song transforms into a fresh and modern Stardust Night for 2026.
As Japanese city pop continues to gain worldwide rediscovery among younger generations, the track carries the sparkling essence of the 1980s while reinterpreting it through the sensibilities of Gen Alpha artists today.
Listeners should also pay close attention to Etsuko Yamakawa signature rich and cinematic chorus arrangements throughout the song.
SAKUra is a Tokyo based Singer Song Girl who transforms her deep fascination with history, philosophy, and classical texts into contemporary pop music. She draws inspiration from ancient words, forgotten stories, and timeless ideas, such as the teachings of Confucius, reimagining them through melody, rhythm, and emotion, rather than academic explanation. She made her debut in 2021 at the age of ten. Since then, she has released five digital singles and two analog vinyl records through Disk Union. Her music reflects a deep curiosity about the past and a desire to bring old thoughts and ideas into the present moment. Light, danceable, and quietly thoughtful, her sound has been described as a new form of philosophy pop, created from a teenage perspective that is both honest and imaginative. Her unique approach, learning from classical thought and reinterpreting it as pop music, has begun to attract attention from cultural scenes both in Japan and abroad. All of her works are composed, arranged, and produced by Etsuko Yamakawa, a legendary figure in Japanese city pop with a multi generational following and international acclaim.
