Kanatanokaze

Hoshi Wo Iru Kimi No Oto (Your Star-Piercing Sound), the New Best-Of Album by Satochiki

Within every person is a sound that reverberates through the depths of the soul.
To all those who do me the honor of listening to this album,
I hope that it will inspire you to lend your ear to that spiritual sound.

The sound of half-forgotten memories, of passions that stirred the heart.
Believe that those sounds are rays of light that pierce even the stars of the night sky.

The new moon, to which you have gazed upon through tears. The starry skies, to which you have cast your prayers.
I invite you to let your urge to shout coalesce with my erhu, with my melodies,
and to let your star-piercing sound arise from your memory.

Satochiki is an erhuist, singer, and songwriter based in Fukuoka, Japan. His work has also taken him to Taiwan and other locations in Asia.
His collaboration with Shinichi Yasuoka of the Japanese folk band Utaibito Hane has resulted in numerous releases beginning with the 2014 album Yadorigi No Oka (Mistletoe Hill), with Yasuoka serving as producer.
This new best-of album could be considered the culmination of their six-year partnership.
The entire compilation has been remastered by ZETTON at StudioLb12, taking each track to new sonic heights.

This 2-CD album includes 25 songs in total. Disc 1 features vocal songs, including the well-known "Kanata No Kaze" ("The Wind From the Other Side") and "Kasumizakura" ("Misty Cherry") as well as a new song entitled "Tasogare No Kaeru Machi" ("The Road Home in the Twilight"). Disc 2 consists of instrumental tracks including "Raima" ("Lightning Horse") and the newly-recorded "Kanata No Kaze (Niko)" ("The Wind From the Other Side (Erhu)").

Artist Profile

  • satochiki

Toward Making the Wako a Traditional Instrument of the Future Based in Japan, Satochiki performs widely across regions including Taiwan and the United States. After encountering the traditional Asian instrument, the Erhu, Satochiki began a career as a singer-songwriter and performer. During this journey, a desire emerged to pursue a sound that felt more deeply personal, leading to the start of instrument development. Together with Japanese instrument maker Kazuhiro Nishino, several years were spent creating an original instrument called the Wako, crafted from Japanese materials such as cedar, keyaki (zelkova), and washi paper. In 2025, Satochiki held a solo concert at ACROS Fukuoka Symphony Hall, a venue with 1,800 seats, achieving a sold-out performance. In 2026, the first Wako European Tour is scheduled. Looking ahead, Satochiki is actively performing both in Japan and internationally with the goal of presenting a solo concert at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2027.
