Synopsis

Historical Background: Edo Period.

Setting: The story is set in the samurai society of Shimousa Province (present-day Chiba Prefecture), as well as Edo, Kanagawa, and Akabane.

Synopsis
While Yamada Konoshin, a retainer of the Chiba clan of Shimousa Province, is away on duty in Edo, his only daughter, Omatsu, is secretly in love with Yasohachi, the son of Maedaiya, a kimono shop owner in Edo who frequents the shop.

Exchange between Sakuma and Horikawa
"Oh, is that Lord Bunji I see there?"
"On the left is Lord Horikawa Chudayu. How unusual," they say, leaning closer to each other.
"Well, Bun'ichi-dono, you are a wanderer, and I, Chutayu, am your accomplice. (Omitted) As you are gone, what did you do to his wife?"
"In that case, it would be embarrassing to tell you. (Omitted) That hateful woman, I have been wandering around this area, intent on killing her as soon as I find her. However, I caught a glimpse of her just now at the Maedaiya, but I let her go out of spite, thinking that maybe Yukinosuke was there, but I was unable to save her."
"If you are afraid of Yukinosuke, then there is no need to worry about it. (Omitted) Go into the Maedaiya and kill them both."
"Oh, I understand," he said, getting ready and heading off.
Finally, with the help of Maedaiya and the Yajima family, Konoshin cornered Sakuma Bunji and his accomplice, Horikawa Chudayū, at Akabane Bridge. By successfully defeating the two, Konoshin cleared his wife's name.
