INFORMEL is a live recording captured at JIROKICHI in Tokyo on October 22, 2020, newly edited, remixed, remastered and reconstructed in 2026.

Across approximately 74 minutes of music, composition and improvisation, individual expression and collective interplay continually shift into one another, allowing the music itself to transform in real time. The performance was accompanied by live painting by Yasuo Kusakabe, with sound, movement, space and visual expression unfolding simultaneously.

Revisited from Sinsuke Fujieda's present perspective, the recording has been reconstructed as a single work - not simply as a document of a past performance, but as a work newly brought into focus in the present.

Featuring six tracks: "Fukushima," "Gentle Erosion," "Informel," "Bamboo," "Nobody Knows," and "Parade."

Artist Profile

  • SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP

SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP is a jazz ensemble based in Tokyo, led by saxophonist, flutist and composer Sinsuke Fujieda. Rooted in modal and spiritual jazz, the group brings Fujieda's original compositions to life through improvisation and the interplay of its musicians. Lyrical melodies woven by saxophone, flute and violin meet propulsive grooves and open-ended development, combining a distinctive compositional voice with the spontaneity of a living ensemble. Released on vinyl by France's Superfly Records in 2025, FUKUSHIMA reached No. 1 on Juno Records' Jazz Chart and Discogs' Best-Selling New Releases Chart. By 2026, cumulative vinyl pressings had reached 9,000 copies. The group also performed at THE PALACE OF WONDER at Fuji Rock Festival in 2025. On 7 October 2026, Fujieda's independent label SoFa Records will release INFORMEL, a double LP that reimagines a 2020 Tokyo live performance from the group's present perspective, tracing its musical roots through a newly reconstructed work.
