    Vermilion Signature

    Akemi

Vermilion Signature is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays a Sunday afternoon when she leaves the marriage form unsigned where he has already pressed his seal, and chooses instead to share one address under two separate family names.
A desk in an apartment in Shinsen, the dull light of three in the afternoon, an opened case of vermilion ink paste, a registration column still left blank, and a rental application drawn closer create a quiet scene where a wordless decision rises through how a hand pauses and which paper it chooses.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the emotions of adulthood that, even while expected to take a husbands name, refuses to spend the finality of a seal on the finality of marriage, and chooses to stay beside him under her own name.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and city pop, the track reimagines that era lyrical subtlety through the air of a room on a day off, the feel of papers and a seal, and a decision never spoken aloud.

With the hand she held back over the blank marriage column, she lowers her own name onto the rental form, leaving two indelible marks of vermilion side by side.
Without ever saying this is enough, she leaves a different name at the same address and draws out the chair beside him, a quiet and grown form of declaring her will.
