I lost to the rain
I lost
I lost
And even so
I am still here
My body came undone
Beneath the rain
The wind blew through me
Scattered every piece
So one by one
I gathered them again
And slowly
I am making me again
Is it all right
To lose to the rain?
Is it all right
To break in the wind?
And still
To remain here
And still
To remain here
I could not live
For someone else
Another person's happiness
Still shakes my heart
I swallow down
The envy inside me
And even so
I smile
I could not become
A Dekunobō
I could not
I could not
As long as there is
Something that I want
I could not
I could not
I say
I need no name
And yet there are nights
I long to hear it called
That voice
That never becomes a voice
The rain
Is listening
I stand here
Beneath the rain
Little by little
I am disappearing
And even so
I am
Still here

デクノボーになれなんだ (English Ver.)
Liminal Reverie
Kenji Miyazawa's poem Ame ni mo Makezu portrays the figure of the "Dekunobō."
It is someone who asks for nothing in return and continues to exist for the sake of others. Yet even while admiring that ideal, there is a part of ourselves that knows we may never fully become it.
I Couldn't Become a Dekunobō is a song about the weakness of being unable to live up to that ideal-and about continuing to live, even so.
