GENEMA to Release 2nd Single "21.0SEIKI" (Riot Remix) at the
End of December 2024
GENEMA is a newly formed band led by Ryotaro Terada, a pianist,
composer, and film director.
With Terada at the helm, the band operates on a unique concept.
Apart from Terada, the lineup is fluid, featuring a rotating cast of
artists from around the world, selected for each song or album.
This approach aims to create groundbreaking, cosmopolitan music
that has never been seen or heard before and has already garnered
significant attention.
The Riot Remix concept reimagines Ryuichi Sakamoto's
"Riot in Lagos", originally part of the "B-2 Unit" album, not as a song but as an independent genre.
Any piece of music can be rearranged and remixed in the style of
"Riot in Lagos", resulting in something entirely new.
This single was inspired by Terada's fascination with Yellow Magic
Orchestra's legendary live performance of "Riot in Lagos"
at London's Hammersmith in 1980.
It blends GENEMA's debut single "21.0SEIKI" (Original Version) with
the essence of "Riot in Lagos".
GENEMA's signature sound, evoking the heat of the sun, takes center stage.
The track features vivid, unforgettable, and gritty melodies, raw
beats, and deeply resonant bass that grips the listener.
This is more than a remix; it is a dramatic clash of two songs,
breathing new life into "Riot in Lagos" and propelling it into an entirely different dimension.
The track also reflects Terada's excitement when experiencing
Harry Styles' "Late Night Talking", Flying Lotus' "MmmHmm", and
SOPHIE's "Faceshopping".
The result is a masterful blend of influences, delivering a sense of
shock and exhilaration that leaves a lasting impression.
On the day of its digital release, the music video will premiere on
GENEMA's YouTube channel.
Highlights include powerful scenes such as a blood-red drum set
being played on a dark, starry beach reminiscent of Van Gogh's
"Starry Night", and Terada wildly playing the piano while speeding
down a midnight highway in an open-top car.
The visuals are striking and immersive from start to finish.
There is also the exciting possibility of a future version featuring
Harry Styles on vocals, Thundercat on bass, and sound design by
Flying Lotus.
This ultra-pop and ultra-cool rendition would undoubtedly push
creative boundaries.
For now, the Riot Remix version marks the beginning of this
transformative project.
We encourage you to dive in early and experience the journey
firsthand.
