From 1997 to the early 2000s, the group Sohmatoh brought about a major revolution in Japanese Hip-Hop, greatly influencing the scene and establishing a unique and hard rhyming culture in Japan. Among them, the group Backgammon is known for its originality, with a particularly hard style and B-Boy stance. ARK, a rapper and member of the group, has finally completed a solo EP that is mainly self-produced.
Breaking the silence of about two years since his previous album Bad Trip Advisor, ARK has released a maxi single with three tracks from that solo EP.
The tracks were produced under his alias Padman. He uses an MPC to create a wide range of boom bap, drill, and rock, centered around sampling. ARK's original voice and hard, skillful rhyming and flow have further evolved into a hip-hop sound that brings together his 30-year career, piercing with a straightforward message. A new song has been born that truly evokes the initial impulse of hip-hop.
Participants in this pre-release maxi-single include DJ BANBI (KAIKOO), who also participated in scratching on Get Down Tonight and the previous album Bad Trip Advisor, once again providing exquisite scratching. Yamada Man of Rappagariya, a veteran of Soumato, makes a guest appearance on Try & Error. The engineering for this EP also involves mixing and mastering all the tracks.
And above all else, the lyrics and tracks are a culmination of ARK's B-Boy Mind. Don't miss it! This is the signal for the start of ARK's second chapter. Whether you're a core Hip-Hop Head, a Soumato fan, or a first-time visitor listening to ARK's music for the first time, enjoy these three singles to your heart's content.
