Yohei Nishi, a member of the four-piece pop band "balconny" based in Fukuoka, will begin his solo career under the name "westman8" in 2025. Mini albums containing songs created using music generation AI will be released consecutively from February 4, 2025.
The first mini album "the City Pop vol.1" will be released on February 4, the second mini album "the Pops vol.1" on February 14, and the third mini album "the Pops vol.2" on February 24.
For vol.1, this work selects songs with "male vocals" from the songs produced, and the genres are wide-ranging, ranging from R&B, catchy dance pop, classic straight pop, and ballads, making it a lineup that will touch the hearts of people of all ages.
In particular, most of the songs on this album are "early works from when we started creating AI," and you can feel the initial impulse of starting out by feeling your way around. In addition, they deliberately did not make minor corrections such as vocal mistakes to give it the "AI flavor."
Yohei Nishi is a Japan based musician, songwriter, and producer, actively working from Fukuoka. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous music productions and songwriting projects for artists, earning a solid reputation among industry professionals for his hands on, practice driven approach. He is a former member of the happy rock band Black1Neck, which debuted as one of Fukuoka's top ranked bands. Currently, he is a member of the pop band balconny, where he serves not only as the bassist but also as the primary songwriter and sound architect, shaping the core musical identity of the band. His work is recognized for balancing strong melodies with groove oriented arrangements, earning deep trust within collaborative production environments. In 2025, he launched his solo project westman8, focusing on music production that integrates AI driven composition tools with human creativity. Rather than treating AI as a mere assistant, he explores a hybrid creative methodology that fuses authorship, emotion, and technology. This approach, blending nostalgia with contemporary sensibilities, has attracted growing attention from music industry professionals as a next generation music production model. Beyond music, Yohei Nishi is also the owner and executive of a family run company with over 100 years of history, giving him a rare dual perspective as both a creator and a business leader. Grounded in real world management and long term decision making, he brings a sustainable and practical viewpoint to creative innovation. Starting in 2026, he plans to expand his activities into educational seminars on AI powered music creation, sharing real production workflows, ethical considerations, and strategic applications of AI in the music industry. His work bridges music, technology, and society, positioning him as a practitioner who not only creates with AI, but also teaches how to implement it responsibly. In addition, he has served as a city goodwill ambassador for six years and remains active as a radio personality, continuously connecting music, media, and local culture. Through these multidimensional activities, he represents a new model of the modern creator, one who links artistic expression with technology, business, and community.
