東京の音楽シーンで異彩を放つ”Spooky neo city pop”アーティスト、STAP Sigh Boys がニューアルバム『Universe』を10月31日に BEST PLAY / VIVID SOUND から配信＆CDでリリースする。

全14曲からなる本作は、シティポップの光沢を纏いながら、アウトサイダーディスコやサイケデリックな哲学を大胆に混ぜ合わせることで、ポップと実験の境界を越境する意欲作だ。トークボックスを多用したヴォーカル・ワークは、過去の影響を引用しながらも、あくまで2025年の東京から発信される“現在進行形のサウンド”として響いている。

トークボックスを多用した全14曲の本作は、シティポップの煌めき、オルタナティブなディスコ、そして宇宙的哲学を縫い合わせ、STAP Sigh Boysのスタイルを決定づける作品となった。

本作では、リードシングル3曲がアルバムのテーマ性を象徴している。英語と日本語を交えた「Déjà Vu」は、まるでアース・ウィンド＆ファイアが、降霊会で悪夢を見ているようなサウンド。「Light(n)ing」は、Discovery期のダフト・パンクを思わせるグリッター感と、ハイボルテージなディスコサウンドにのせたラブソング。「君たちは宇宙生まれ」は、クラシックなディスコの高揚感と宇宙カルトのプロパガンダが融合したアドレナリン全開の1曲となっている。

シングル以外の楽曲も、ドープとカルチャーが往来する。「前澤, Take Me to the Moon」や「おはよう, Sun God」では現代的なポップネスと神話を模した壮大さが融合。「Empathy(共感放送!)」や「If You Were Here」では、よりストレートで感情的な側面が表れる。一方で「The Doldrums」は、“ジョン・コルトレーンがサンダーキャットとスキャットマン・ジョンと一緒にアンフェタミンをやったらどうなるか”を実験したストレンジなネオジャズが繰り広げられている。

こうした14曲で構成されるアルバム『Universe』は、折り重ねられたユーモア、科学、ロマンス、魔術、宇宙、そして汎神論が、ディスコによって駆動され、トランス状態のシネマティック・ビジョンとして表現されている。

    1970年の大阪万博ｱｲﾙﾗﾝﾄﾞ館で働くため来日｡観光で訪れた東京･築地市場で誤って冷凍庫に閉じ込められてしまう｡その後､市場が豊洲に移転した際にようやく発見され､現代に甦る･･･ 『電子ﾚﾝｼﾞで溶かしたﾈｵｿｳﾙ』『1人ﾗﾝﾀﾞﾑ･ｱｸｾｽ･ﾒﾓﾘｰｽﾞ(ﾀﾞﾌﾄ･ﾊﾟﾝｸ)』『高円寺のﾏｯｸﾃﾞﾏﾙｺ』｡初ﾗｲﾌﾞはFUJI ROCK FESTIVAL’21 Rookie A GoGo｡2021年11月23日にﾃﾞﾋﾞｭｰｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ『Hey』をﾘﾘｰｽし､2022年4月29日には､ｺﾝｾﾌﾟﾁｭｱﾙﾃﾞｨｽｺｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ『Aino』をﾘﾘｰｽ｡影絵､腹話術､魔術､ﾊﾟｰﾃｨｰｹﾞｰﾑを盛り込んだｼｭｰﾙでｲﾝﾀﾗｸﾃｨﾌﾞなﾗｲﾌﾞを数多く行い､ﾗｲﾌﾞｼｰﾝでも高い評価を得ている｡
