Artist Profile

  • Ami Yoda

Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1985, he currently resides in the prefecture. He is an improviser who expresses himself primarily through his voice and his entire body. He grew up playing among trees and rocks. He later discovered rock climbing and traveled to huge rock formations across Japan. Around the same time, he began his musical career. In 2009, he joined the free improvisation band Geonori, where he experienced improvisation for the first time. That same year, he was inspired by the performance of improvisational drummer Shoji Hano, and participated in his Australian and domestic tours. He subsequently performed at numerous art events, including the Aichi Performing Arts Garden (2011) with Geonori, and the Akita Art Project (2013) and Shinano Country Primitive Sense Art Festival (2016) as a solo artist. He has also performed with musicians from Japan and abroad at live music venues across the country, including Shinjuku Pit Inn.
