Inspired by Tokuzō Chikamatsu's "Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba" (Ise Ondo Love Sleeping Blade) (1796), Kadoza Theater, Osaka

The Aburaya Incident was a massacre that occurred in the brothel of Furuichi, Ise Province, during the Edo period. It is also commonly known as the "Furuichi Ten-Man Killing."

[Origin: Sword Investigation]
Awa samurai Mitsugi Fukuoka is searching for his master's treasured sword, the "Aoe Shimosaka," which he lost, and its appraisal certificate, "Origami." Mitsugi discovers that his enemy, Iwaji Tokushima, has them in his possession, and enters the Aburaya brothel in Furuichi, Ise. Mitsugi's lover, a prostitute named Okon, is staying at Aburaya.

[Bullying by the Waitress Manno]
At the bathhouse, Kisuke, Mitsugu's former servant who now works as a cook, betrays him and tries to help him. However, the bathhouse's waitress (the de facto proprietress), Manno, dislikes Mitsugu and is relentlessly mean to him. Manno has lied to another prostitute named Oshika, telling her that Mitsugu has feelings for her, and humiliates the penniless Mitsugu in front of everyone.

[Aisozukashi]
His lover, Onon, appears, but in order to get her sword back from Iwaji, she hardens her heart and fakes a breakup with Mitsugu (aisozukashi). She coldly tells him, "I'll switch to Iwaji-sama," and "I hate poor people like you," before throwing Mitsugu's sake cup.
Mitsugu, unaware of the situation, is enraged and devastated.

[Sword Switching and Massacre]
Iwaji mocks Mitsugu and shows off his sword (which is actually the famous sword Mitsugu has been searching for) before entering the room. Kisuke cleverly switches Iwaji's sword with Mitsugu's plain sword.

Taunted and cornered by Manno and Oshika, Mitsugu finally loses his patience and kills Manno. Realizing that his sword has been switched with the famous sword, Aoe Shimosaka, Mitsugu, as if possessed by the enchantment of the cursed sword, slashes people one after another (Ten-Man Slash), finally defeating Iwaji and achieving his goal.
[Ending]
Mitsugu and Okon leave the scene to escape their pursuers.
