Can you hear it?
Can you feel it?
Something is coming
We carved our names in monuments
We wrote our wars in stone
We buried boys in foreign dirt
And called the ground our own
The bells rang out in empty towers
The maps were drawn in red
A thousand years of history
And still we choose to fight
How many graves must we remember?
How many names must disappear?
If history was meant to teach us
Why are we still standing here?
(Dies irae, dies illa)
This is the day of wrath
Hear the thunder calling
(Solvet saeclum in favilla)
This is the day of wrath
Hear the heavens falling
What have we learned?
What have we done?
What will be left
When tomorrow comes?
Day of wrath
Day of wrath
The judgment has begun
A child looks through a broken wall
And asks what lies ahead
We speak of peace and liberty
While counting up the dead
We hand them ashes for a harvest
We hand them borders, walls and wire
Then tell them they can fix a world
We failed to leave behind
How many fires must keep on burning?
How many mothers have to cry?
How can we promise them tomorrow
While we teach another child to die?
(Dies irae, dies illa)
This is the day of wrath
Hear the thunder calling
(Solvet saeclum in favilla)
This is the day of wrath
Hear the heavens falling
What have we learned?
What have we done?
What will be left
When tomorrow comes?
Day of wrath
Day of wrath
The judgment has begun
Tell me
What is a man
If mercy makes him weak?
What is a nation
If children pay the price?
What is a future
Built on sacrifice?
We prayed to gods
We prayed for peace
We begged the war
We begged the hate to cease
But maybe heaven
Never turned away
Maybe we
Created judgment day
(Choir: Quantus tremor est futurus)
(Choir: Quando judex est venturus)
Do you hear the drums?
Do you hear them now?
No angel comes
No trumpet sounds
No hand of God
Will strike us down
We built this fire
We wear the crown
THIS IS THE DAY OF WRATH
Let the whole world hear it
THIS IS THE DAY OF WRATH
Can you feel it burning?
What have we learned?
What have we done?
Look in the eyes
Of our daughters and sons
DAY OF WRATH
DAY OF WRATH
The judgment has begun
(Dies irae, dies illa)
THIS IS THE DAY OF WRATH
Now the sky is burning
(Solvet saeclum in favilla)
What will we leave
When we are gone?
A grave for the children
Or somewhere to belong?
DAY OF WRATH
DAY OF WRATH
The judgment has begun
No savior
No sign
No voice from the sky
Only us
Only now
Only one question
Are we still human?

KNOX CLASSICS: Sacred Noise
A classical arrangement album by KNOX, an AI virtual rock band.
Bach. Vivaldi. Wagner. Dvorak. Mussorgsky. Verdi. Massenet. Beethoven. Eight themes left behind by eight composers across three centuries, translated into the language of a five-piece rock band. Every source work is in the public domain. Every lyric is original.
It started with a single note the pipe organ breaking the silence. When Bach's toccata was moved onto a distorted guitar, it became clear this could work. What followed was the summer storm, the ride across the battlefield, the demons on bald mountain, the wrath of judgment day, the stillness of meditation. Scenes the originals already carried, rebuilt over drums and overdrive.
This is not classical music quoted. Only the themes were taken; everything else was filled back in with the sound of a band. Counterpoint became riffs. Orchestral mass became layers of guitar. A chorus of hundreds became a single voice. Something was lost. Something else was gained.
The album closes with Beethoven's Ninth the ode to joy. The silence broken in the first track arrives here, eight songs later. After the storm. After the road. After the judgment.
