This EP brings together a collection of tracks composed by TOMC for the creative unit IKA, formed alongside wheelchair dancer Kenta Kambara and human augmentation researcher Ryoichi Ando.
Exploring themes of physical diversity and defamiliarized bodily expression, the project represents a bold experiment in redefining the relationship between sound and movement.
Each composition was created for Kambara's dance performances utilizing the "Slide Lift", a wheelchair-shaped body-augmentation device developed by Ando. Anchored in the ambient soundscapes that have defined TOMC's career, the EP unfolds across a remarkably wide spectrum of genres--from trip-hop and drum'n'bass to techno, tribal house, trap, gospel, funk, and disco--forming a progressive and exploratory sonic journey.
Showcasing TOMC's deep musical curiosity as both a DJ and writer, the record also rekindles the bold experimental spirit he honed during his early years in places like Mexico. The result is an ambitious and liberating work that points toward an exciting new chapter in his creative evolution.
TOMC is a beat and ambient producer whose works have been released on acclaimed labels such as Inner Ocean Records (Canada), Insert Records (Sweden), and Kankyō Records, Local Visions, and Kakubarhythm (Japan). His 2023 album True Life was praised as 'a Nujabes for the 2020s' and was selected as one of the Best Albums of the Year by international music outlet Small Albums. In recent years, he has joined the legendary Japanese experimental collective Taj Mahal Travellers (now STONE MUSIC), touring with them in India. At the same time, his wide-ranging activities -- providing a monthly DJ mix for J-WAVE, engaging in dialogues with artists such as Tetsuya Komuro and tofubeats, and performing at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai -- have drawn attention for transcending the boundaries between mainstream and underground. Beyond his music, TOMC is also active as a writer. His recent book J-POP no Ongaku-teki Bouken (The Musical Adventures of J-POP) explores Japanese pop music from a unique, groove-oriented perspective.
