A New Era of City Pop? The quintessential Valentine's Day song composed and produced by Etsuko Yamakawa of the legendary city pop unit "Tohoku Shinkansen," which still has a strong fan base around the world, is sung coquettishly by the mysterious 12-year-old bilingual singer SAKUra in her debut single and the remixed version of the song has now been released! The remix was composed by a rising star in the Vocaloid world, the up-and-coming arranger Sodeno Awara. Don't miss the most "it" sound that drives neo-city pop!
SAKUra is a Tokyo based Singer Song Girl who transforms her deep fascination with history, philosophy, and classical texts into contemporary pop music. She draws inspiration from ancient words, forgotten stories, and timeless ideas, such as the teachings of Confucius, reimagining them through melody, rhythm, and emotion, rather than academic explanation. She made her debut in 2021 at the age of ten. Since then, she has released five digital singles and two analog vinyl records through Disk Union. Her music reflects a deep curiosity about the past and a desire to bring old thoughts and ideas into the present moment. Light, danceable, and quietly thoughtful, her sound has been described as a new form of philosophy pop, created from a teenage perspective that is both honest and imaginative. Her unique approach, learning from classical thought and reinterpreting it as pop music, has begun to attract attention from cultural scenes both in Japan and abroad. All of her works are composed, arranged, and produced by Etsuko Yamakawa, a legendary figure in Japanese city pop with a multi generational following and international acclaim.
