The Conanimal Project introduces a new approach to animal welfare activities under the slogan "A Life with Dignity for Animals." Just three months after the release of the first installment of Listen, Sing, and Dance to Save SKU (Save Animals), titled Ashitaninareba- What Cats Taught Me, the second installment has already been unveiled.
Zinney Imasato's dog, TEN, passed away suddenly, leaving her in deep sorrow. However, through this sadness, she came to realize that even the pain was part of the wonderful days she cherished with TEN-a testament to the heartfelt bond they shared. This realization inspired her to write the song as a way to express her gratitude toward TEN.
The song's first vocal recording was performed by singer-songwriter Sakina. Initially intended as a demo, her unique voice-combining an ethereal, almost inorganic quality with a warm, organic resonance-created such a distinctive and captivating sound that it felt like something extraordinary was about to emerge. Consequently, the demo version was released unchanged.
Sakina's personal experience of grieving for her beloved cats was also woven into the song. She reflects that the song reminded her not of the loss, but of the beautiful moments she shared with them, celebrating the joy of their companionship.
The name Conanimal represents the project's vision, created by Zinney Imasato (activist name), a former animal welfare advocate and lyricist for Animal Whisperer, and Ryo Matsui, a dog lover and former guitarist for The Brilliant Green, who has been actively involved in animal protection. Founded in 2024, Conanimal strives to deliver messages from the perspective of animals and convey appreciation for the relationship between humans and animals.
All songs produced by Conanimal reflect the voices and emotions of animals, aiming to deepen the connection between humans and their animal companions. The name Conanimal symbolizes the project's mission of achieving true symbiosis between humans and animals and fostering a barrier-free society.
This particular song captures the beautiful chemistry between Sakiina and a rising star who has appeared as if by fate, bringing new energy to the project.
Conanimal - May the whispers of animals echo throughout the world Founded in 2024, Conanimal is a music unit dedicated to animal welfare, led by lyricist and animal advocate Zinney Imasato and guitarist Ryo Matsui (formerly of The brilliant green). In 2025, new members joined to launch "Listen, Sing, Dance, SKU (Save)", a participatory project that encourages action through music and creativity. The name "Conanimal" derives from the Latin roots of consider - con (together) and sider (star) - symbolizing the deep bond between humans and animals who share our lives more closely than the stars above. Conanimal's songs are told from the perspective of animals, expressing love, gratitude, and the value of life. Three tracks have been released: - "Ashitaninareba ~What My Cat Taught Me " Inspired by Imasato's late cat Dies, performed by aimi-ku, and described as an animal-themed "We Are the World". Now available for karaoke via JOYSOUND. - "The Words I Longed to Say" A tribute to his beloved dog TEN and the joy of time shared, voiced by singer-songwriter Sakina. - "Longing for the Lion" Based on a poem Imasato wrote at age 11, expressing his early commitment to animal rescue. The project collaborates with JEHO, producer Norio Sakai (Senzoku Gakuen College of Music), and finger-tutting dance group XTRAP. Participating animals - including viral Shiba Inu police dog Ai, and gifted dogs Blacky and Thanks - also serve as project navigators. Two interactive initiatives invite public participation: - Listen, Sing, Dance, SKU (#Conanimal): Creative expressions like singing, dance, art, or calligraphy posted on social media contribute directly to animal welfare funds. - Listen, Sing, SKU (#The First Penguin): Participants record vocals in a single take, embodying courage and emotional depth. The "first vocalist" role, inspired by the First Penguin concept, rotates across tracks - renewing the message with each new voice and expanding the circle of empathy. Conanimal's mission is to offer multi-sensory experiences that foster compassion and advocate for a society where humans and animals truly coexist. Led by Imasato, its music becomes a vessel for protecting animal dignity and addressing welfare challenges in Japan.
