GROOVES & TAILLIGHTS is the third album by the fictional AI singer Akemi, following fifteen songs from the afterglow of taillights to the silence at the end groove of a record.
A registration card signed at a winter hotel by the sea, a public telephone on a platform after the last train, a night highway past the toll gate, a record she refused to hand to anyone in the rain, and a brass key set down beside a coaster trace one continuous passage in which she leaves the passenger seat, puts the key down, and returns to a tempo of her own.

Across these fifteen tracks, Akemi sings the emotions of adulthood that refuses to stay seated in a comfort arranged by someone else, and accepts the cold that comes with that choice.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and city pop, the album reimagines that era urban lyricism through images of night highways, records, and rain at the airport.

The first half drives toward taking back a steering wheel that had been left to someone else, and the second half toward switching off an autopilot she had trusted for years.
On the final track a black taxi door closes, and the destination she names is not a shared silence but the familiar noise of Tokyo, bringing the passage back to her own speed.

Produced by nanayon music.
