Firefly's Promise

Hiyou

"A Fish Who Longed for Birds"
When I thrust through the water and leap towards the shimmering surface, there's a moment when my body becomes weightless in the air.
The world transforms completely from its azure state.
Though my breathing, skin, and eyes all suffer, I leap again and again, falling each time, just to glimpse that world once more.
In that long instant at the surface, I saw creatures soaring far higher than I could. I admired them. I envied them, and kept leaping time after time, refusing to be outdone.
Yet I never reached them.

I often have such dreams.
In my past life, I must have been a fish or something similar.
Ah, how much it resembles who I am now.

Artist Profile

  • Hiyou

Hiyou is a Tokyo-based artist, songwriter, and composer who pushes the boundaries of genre, blending pop, jazz, classical, and electronica into deeply emotional, cinematic soundscapes. His music combines translucent, heartfelt vocals with improvisational piano and intricate production, creating a unique sonic experience that ''paints landscapes in your memory.'' Raised on classical piano, Hiyou discovered improvisation and composition in his teens before studying advanced music theory and composition at Toho College of Music. This foundation allows him to fuse technical precision with a sense of wonder, turning personal stories and vivid imagery into music. In 2024, he released his debut album Hikoushou (Flight Chapter), a concept album based on the idea: ''A fish that longed to fly will leap again, no matter how many times it falls.'' His songs invite listeners into an intimate yet expansive world--one that feels both nostalgic and full of discovery. Hiyou continues to evolve as an artist, crafting works that bridge fantasy and reality, while preparing for his third major live performance in Tokyo in 2025.
