In 2018, Kotaro Saito, at the time a completely nameless artist, reached the number 1 spot in Spotify's Viral 50 Japan, and every song he has released since has become a regular feature on Spotify Official Playlists. He is drawing attention not just within Japan, but also overseas, including America, Taiwan, and Indonesia, and as of June 2019, his monthly listeners exceed 80,000. His latest creation, "Reason," is a long awaited composition with vocals-the first in a year. This ambitious work includes MAYUMI, who sings "Love Song," the main theme of Hakkeijima Sea Paradise's "LIGHTIA," Aya Tomoda, the violinist who took part in "Blue," released in March, and Hajime Uchiyama-a leading composer of music for commercials, who collaborated on April's release, "Memento"-who takes the role of guitarist. In this piece, MAYUMI's vocals, which were beautifully carefree in "Love Song," evolve to give a more bewitching, mature impression. While making the most of her incredible vocal range, violin like a gentle breeze, sublime, fantastic guitar, and piano and synthesizer which are light but full of intent all unite to create a groundbreaking modern groove. Nostalgic, yet modern. Urban, but imbued with fantasy. Three minutes and four seconds complete with varied layers of contrasting elements. SAYUKI, who worked as a singer and model consecutively on "Koishi Kimini" and "Love Song," also lends her hand to this work as a lyricist. The lyrics tell the eternal truth behind "the reason we sing" and "the reason we live," sinking deep into the heart of the listener, showing them the answer they need each time they listen. With this composition, the creators capture a moment in which the bustling atmosphere of a city street intertwines with overflowing mystique.
